Depot Exhibition 2024 at the State Museum Depots in Pivka
Bicycle Destinies: The Collection of Bicycles from the National Museum of Contemporary History of Slovenia
On view from 4 May 2024
From 4 May 2024, the temporary exhibition Bicycle Destinies: The Collection of Bicycles from the National Museum of Contemporary History of Slovenia will be on display at the State Museum Depots in Pivka.
The exhibition features seventeen bicycles, the majority of which are preserved in the collection of the National Museum of Contemporary History of Slovenia.
In the inventory of the National Museum of Contemporary History under number 466, there is a black bicycle associated with Edo Brajnik, a member of the Collegium of the Security and Intelligence Service (VOS) within the Liberation Front (OF). This first bicycle, which the curators acquired and registered on October 10, 1952, marked the field of the bicycle collection, which the museum still collects to this day. The story of the owner of the bike is more to the fore than the technical features of it. The bicycles are kept in the Tools, Machines, Equipment and Transportation Collection and are treated museologically for the first time with the exhibition Bicycles. No restoration work had been carried out on the objects in the past. Some information about the museology was also discovered through the restoration process, since it was not noticeable before such interventions. We determined interventions according to the condition of the object, in the wish to display the objects as intact as possible.
The exhibition runs until 15 December 2024.
The exhibition was curated by Irena Uršič, Katarina Jurjavčič, and Aleš Jelinčič.
