A Story from the Independence Ceremony
The new Slovenian coat-of-arms and flag were approved only a day before independence. The flag played an important role at the ceremony in Ljubljana and had to be sewn overnight. Mere hours before the start of the independence ceremony on June 26, 1991, it was found to have been sewn wrong – the coat of arms entered the red field instead of the white. By determination and a series of coincidences, the more than 13 metres long and 2 metre-wide flag was brought in time to the venue, and the independence ceremony could run smoothly. The original flag, of inestimable value, is now kept in the museum depot.
