In the National Museum of Contemporary History of Slovenia, we present the history and achievements of Slovenians from the beginning of the First World War to the present day. Here you will learn about the recent history of Slovenes and discover their stories.

Discover the history of Slovenes in the 20th century with a free guided tour in English at the National Museum of Contemporary History of Slovenia in Ljubljana. Join us for a public tour of the permanent exhibition Slovenes in the 20th Century.
The tour begins in 1914 on the front lines of the First World War, continues through the interwar years and the occupation of Slovenian territory during the Second World War, and concludes with the postwar period, the 1980s, the Slovenian Ten-Day War, and Slovenian independence.
The tour lasts approximately 90 minutes. To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, the maximum number of participants is 30. To reserve a spot, simply express your interest at the reception desk on the day of the tour.

You can treat yourself or your loved ones to a guided tour of the permanent or temporary exhibition at the National Museum of Contemporary History of Slovenia. The Museum Experience includes admission for two people and a guided tour for a group of 2 to 9 participants. If your group exceeds 9 people, additional admission fees can be paid on the day of the tour.

The museum is located on the outskirts of Tivoli Park, next to Tivoli Hall. You can reach us on foot, by bicycle, city bus, car or city bike.
From the city center:
If you have decided to visit on foot or by bicycle, follow the streets that lead you from the city center to Tivoli Park. The avenue of trees will direct you past the water fountains and children’s playgrounds to Cekin Castle, where our museum is located next to the Tivoli Hall.
From the main Ljubljana Bus Station and the Ljubljana Railway Station:
The museum is 1.5 km from the main Ljubljana Bus Station and the Ljubljana Railway Station. The route to us leads along Tivolska street and then partially along Celovška cesta, where at Pivovarna Union you turn towards Park Tivoli.
City buses with numbers 1, 3, 5, 7, 8 and 25 take you to the Tivoli stop. From here, you continue towards the park and the Tivoli Hall, where you will find our museum.
You can park your car or bus in the public parking lots Tivoli I or Tivoli II and then head towards the museum, which is located next to the Tivoli Hall.
Our premises are accessible to all visitors.
The museum is equipped with ramps and an elevator. The exhibition spaces are accessible to everyone.
The toilet facilities are accessible for people with mobility impairments.
With prior notice, we also provide parking next to the museum for visitors who have difficulty accessing the building. Please let us know about your visit in advance at info@muzej-nz.si or call 01 300 96 10.

Public parking lots Tivoli I and Tivoli II are located near the museum.
The museum offers a cloakroom – hangers and cabinets in which you can store your personal items.
A changing table is available in the toilet area.
There is a vending machine with drinks and snacks located near the cloakroom.
There is a place in front of the museum where you can leave your bike.
Tap water is drinkable in the museum.
Dogs are also welcome in the museum. Furry friends can accompany you when exploring the museum and visiting the exhibitions. Please observe the museum etiquette for dog owners when visiting the museum with your dog.
The museum is part of the UNICEF Safe Point network. A child or young person experiencing distress can turn to the museum as a place where they may find protection, support or guidance.
As a Safe Point, the museum provides a space where:
– children and young people are received with respect and without judgement,
– they are offered a sense of safety and understanding,
– they can be directed to appropriate support services when necessary.
A Safe Point is not intended solely for moments of distress; it may also be a place for a brief conversation or simply for sharing a positive moment.
Staff members who serve as Safe Point volunteers have received dedicated training. Their role is to listen, offer initial support and, where appropriate, help connect the child or young person with relevant services.
By obtaining the LGBT-Friendly Certificate, the museum affirms its commitment to:
– strengthening awareness of the fundamental human rights of LGBT people,
– fostering an inclusive working environment for LGBT staff members,
– raising staff awareness in the provision of services and programmes for LGBT visitors,
– enhancing sensitivity in recognising potential violations of the rights of LGBT people in both the workplace and visitor environment.
Through adapted programmes and a supportive environment, the museum seeks to encourage the independence of people living with dementia and support their continued engagement with cultural life.
