World Animal Day has been celebrated since 1931, on October 4, the day of the patron saint of animals, St. Francis of Assisi. The original purpose was to raise public awareness of endangered animal species, but nowadays this day is dedicated to all animals.
Throughout history, animals have been an important part of human life, and their role can also be traced through the photographs of the 20th century. The purpose of the exhibition is to show a fragmentary view of animals. The main focus of the mostly documentary photos is events in which people play the main role. Animals do not usually appear as the central motif of photographers. Although the main interest is less often focused on animals, it can still be seen that as anonymous participants they play an important role in events.
The exhibition was made possible by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia.
