The Silver Games 1984 in Slovenj Gradec

The exhibition Silver Games 1984, prepared on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Winter Olympic Games in Sarajevo, is a joint effort by the Museum of Contemporary and Modern History of Slovenia and the Museum of Sports, an organizational unit of the Slovenian School Museum. It showcases the remarkable collection work of amateur collector Tomaž Alauf, blending museum research with historical storytelling.

The exhibition takes us on a nostalgic journey to 1984, the year when Yugoslavia hosted the Winter Olympic Games. In addition to presenting the sports results and their numerous associated stories, it highlights the significant role Slovenians played in this major sporting event—not only as athletes, sports workers, experts, and officials but also in designing the sports venues, organizing the opening and closing ceremonies, and creating the official mascot, the beloved Vučko.

Due to spatial constraints, only a portion of the temporary exhibition Silver Games 1984 will be on display.

The exhibition will be hosted at the Koroška Regional Museum (Glavni trg 24, Slovenj Gradec) from February 14th to the end of March 2025.
