Drawing on documentary photographs from the collections of the Museum of Contemporary History of Slovenia, the exhibition The Beginnings of Slovenian Diplomacy presents the origins and early development of Slovenian diplomacy, from its operation within Yugoslavia to Slovenia’s accession to the major international organisations during the 1990s. It explores the establishment of the diplomatic service during the demanding circumstances of independence, when Slovenia had to build its own diplomatic network while simultaneously developing relations with other states. The exhibition is conceived as a chronological survey, guiding visitors through five thematic sections. These examine Slovenian diplomacy within Yugoslavia, the period from the plebiscite to the outbreak of war, the developments from the Brioni Declaration to international recognition, and Slovenia’s integration into the principal international organisations.
With the exhibition The Beginnings of Slovenian Diplomacy, the Museum of Contemporary History of Slovenia joins the commemoration of the 35th anniversary of Slovenia’s independence.
The exhibition was created in cooperation with the Gajst Institute for Diplomatic Education and is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia.
