Photographic exhibition the Joys of Winter

Exhibition on view from: December 3, 2018 to February 6, 2019
Exhibition Curator: Monika Močnik

Photographic exhibition the ‘Joys of Winter’ celebrates the work of the legendary Dnevnik’s photojournalist Marjan Ciglič (1924–1998) at the 20th anniversary of his death. During his more than forty years long career, Ciglič created one of the most comprehensive photographic chronicles of the everyday life of Slovenians at home and abroad.

In 2001, when the Dnevnik publishing house celebrated its fiftieth anniversary, the entirety of Ciglič’s photographic legacy was gifted to the museum. Each Friday the newspaper still publishes his photographs in the Porumenele fotografije column.

The vast collection of Ciglič’s photographs containing more than three hundred thousand black-and-white original negatives has exceptional value as national cultural heritage. The selection of twenty-eight photographs presented at the exhibition is but a small part of the photographer’s extensive opus; it is a visual narrative about the joys that winter, snow, and December festivities bring. The exhibition is a testament of the timeless playfulness and the delight of children and adults alike, and at the same time, it announces the forthcoming December festivities and the coming of a new year.
