Kobe’s tarock. The concentration camps’ narrative

Kobe’s tarock. The concentration camps’ narrative

On view: from January 22 to February 7, 2018 and from January 26 to February 11, 2018

The deck of tarock cards was drawn by the artist and architect Boris Kobe. The cards depict the transit through three concentration camps between February and April 1945. They capture the horror, fear, suffering, cynicism and a hint of humanity. The first part portrays the procedures of entering the Dachau concentration camp and everyday life, whereas the second part follows with an illustration of the hard work in Überlingen concentration camp. The last scenes are testimonies from Allach, where he witnessed the liberation and afterwards painted the impressions of the whole experience.

Life in the camp unfolds around the concentration camp prisoners – kings, queens, knights, jacks, small and big cards. Yet the real players are invisible.
