Temporary exhibition

Hiroshima and Nagasaki

Hiroshima and Nagasaki

Exhibition on view from: March 26 to April 20, 2019

The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, the Museum of Contemporary History of Slovenia, and the Slovenian PEN Center aim to commemorate the victims of the atomic bomb and raise awareness of the dangers of nuclear armament.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki – two flourishing cities: two cities of people, two cities of birds, two cities of parks… two cities full of life – were reduced to dust in an instant in August 1945. Yet, the destruction did not end there. Not all the causes, and even fewer of the consequences are known. The victims of the atomic bombs in Nagasaki and Hiroshima remind us that the use of nuclear weapons is never directed away from ourselves, that bunkers or even escaping to another planet cannot protect us from the end we are rapidly bringing upon ourselves.

The survivors found the strength to speak out. In sharing their experiences, in expressing their pain, fear, suffering, and concern, they found the meaning of survival.

This exhibition is part of the 51st International Writers’ Meeting in Bled, under the honorary patronage of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor.

With this exhibition, we join all those who strive for peace.
