Are you curious about when the first health center began operating or how the wounded and sick were cared for during both world wars and the war of independence in 1991? Perhaps you know what an iron lung is and how many decades ago the first open-heart surgery was performed in Slovenia?
The new exhibition project of our Museum, which, among other things, presents materials from numerous Slovenian museums, health and related institutions and highlights the activities of the Institute for the History of Medicine, will answer all this and more.
The exhibition and accompanying publication offer a selection of stories from the history of Slovenian health institutions and selected areas of medicine. They highlight the activities of medical personnel in peacetime and in emergency situations (during wars, during natural disasters, large-scale accidents, etc.). They describe the prevailing infectious diseases (from the Spanish flu to Covid-19) and outstanding achievements of Slovenian medicine and healthcare. The exhibition walk through objects, photographs, documents, film and television footage and testimonies will present many rarely seen and heard interesting facts from the history of Slovenian healthcare and medicine in the 20th and 21st centuries.
