Firefighter festivities evoke mixed reactions: some claim they don’t follow them, yet most people have a clear opinion about them. Attendance records reveal that these events are among the most popular cultural gatherings in Slovenia. Despite their widespread appeal, the lack of serious scholarly reflection on this mass phenomenon inspired Voranc Vogel, a photojournalist at Delo, to explore it through his camera lens.
This guest photography exhibition at the National Museum of Contemporary History of Slovenia, on display until November 28, 2018, presents the author’s unique perspective on the cultural reality of these festivities, situated at the intersection of urban and rural life.
