XVII Olympic winter games Lillehammer 1994
The 17th Winter Olympic Games were held in Lillehammer, Norway, from 12 to 27 February 1994. The sporting spectacle took place just two years after the last Olympic Games, as the International Olympic Committee decided to hold the Summer and Winter Olympics two years apart instead of in the same year. The Slovenian national team consisted of 22 athletes (17 men, five women), who competed in three disciplines. The flag-bearer of the Slovenian team at the opening ceremony was the skier Jure Košir.
Slovenian athletes managed to win three bronze Olympic medals at the Olympic Games, these were the first medals for the independent Republic of Slovenia. On February 21, 1994, the barely 18-year-old Alenka Dovžan from Mojstrana won the first medal in the alpine combination. On the last day of the Olympic Games, Katja Koren and Jure Košir also won bronze medals in slaloms.
Official hat of the Slovenia Olympic team was donated to the museum by Mr. Tomo Levovnik.
