This year, GRADIS would have celebrated its 80th anniversary. Throughout its history, the company made a significant contribution to the development of Slovenia and the wider region, participating in the construction of hydroelectric power plants, steelworks, factories, residential complexes, transport infrastructure, and more. From the very beginning, Gradis devoted great attention to the development and well-being of its employees. In addition to building homes for numerous families and supporting young people through scholarships and professional training, the company also encouraged employees to actively spend their free time outside the workplace. Various sports competitions and recreational events were organized, and Gradis built several holiday homes for employees and their families.
The company also published its own newsletter, OZD GIP Gradis – Gradbeni Vestnik (Construction Gazette), which informed the public about its projects, work, sports events, vacations, and other activities of its employees. At the beginning of the new millennium, Gradis, like many Slovenian companies, unfortunately succumbed to the loss of markets in the former Yugoslavia and the consequences of economic transition and restructuring within the new system.
For the Object of the Month for October, we highlight the jubilee issue of the Gradis Newsletter, published in 1980 to mark the company’s 35th anniversary. In the museum, Gradis was also commemorated through the photographic exhibition Years of Work, Effort, and Pride: The Legacy of Gradis, which showcases a small portion of the company’s construction projects on Slovenian soil.
