The white girls’ silk dress parachuted by Allied aviators was made in Dolenjske toplice during Second World War
The first Allied or Anglo-American military mission arrived on the occupied territory in the present-day Slovenia in June 1943 under the command of Major William Jones. The decision to dispatch the first military mission was made after receiving reports that only the Partisans were actively fighting against the occupying power. Whereas the Soviet military mission arrived in March 1944 and the Czech in January 1945.
In addition to military missions, which maintained communication between Partisans and the Allies, and provided funds and equipment to assist Partisans in their liberation movement, there were also other Allied military groups present on Slovenian territory. These groups had special missions, such as providing ground surveillance and intelligence for the Allies.
The first Allied aid missions were dispatched to Dolenjska region and Notranjska region, respectively, in August 1943. At first the Allied aircraft had to dump the aid packages on the pre-agreed “descent points”, however, once the Partisan airports were organised the Allies could deliver the aid by plane. The Allies also transported hospital patients and wounded Partisans for medical treatments from the latter airports to southern Italy.
