Universale Domžale company
straw hat, the official
headgear of the Olympic competitors at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.
In the second half of 2022, the Museum of Contemporary History of
Slovenia will step into the shoes of Slovenian athletes, paralympians and
sports teams. In cooperation with them, we are preparing an exhibition that
will take visitors into the world of the greatest Slovenian sporting successes.
In the month of September, we are dedicating the showcase of the month to
sports, more precisely to the donation of Mr. Tomaž Levovnik, a well-known
Slovenian physical culture and sports official.
In our textile collection, there is a straw hat from the company
Univerzale Domžale, which was part of the official outfit of our Olympians at
the Summer Olympics in Barcelona in 1992. The Games, which took place in the Catalan
capital between July 25 and August 9, 1992, were the first summer Olympic
Games, in which Slovenia participated as an independent country.
The flag bearer was Rajmond Debevec. The Slovenian expedition won two
bronze medals in the first days of August. Iztok Čop and Denis Žvegelj won the
medal in the coxless pair, while Milan Janša, Jani Klemenčič, Sašo Mirjanič and
Sadik Mujkić rowed in the coxless four.
The hat is part of a donation of a wide variety of items that were
donated to us in 2021 by Mr. Levovnik. His donation, which includes everything
from textiles to plaques, official mascots of the Olympic Games and much more,
includes over 150 items. The showcase also includes the mascot of the Winter
Olympic Games in Alberville in 1992.
