»INDEPENDENT – SAMOSTOJNOST« SPARKLING WINE
In honour of Slovenia's independence, on June 25, 1991, in addition to the official sign of independence – a torch in the colours of the Slovene tricolour – Studio Marketing prepared several independence symbols and promotional materials, including sparkling wine. The Goriška brda Farmers' Cooperative filled 30,000 bottles of sparkling Rebula especially for this occasion, with the name Independent – Samostojnost. Zinka Vadnjal from Parije near Pivka bought the special sparkling wine on the day of the independence ceremony, or rather on the day before, on June 26, 1991, in order for Pivka primary school teachers to toast independent Slovenia. She bought it at the moment when the Yugoslav People's Army tanks were leaving Pivka barracks towards Vipava Valley and the border crossings with Italy. She drove along the Pivka road with the two sparkling wines, right in the middle of Yugoslav People's Army tanks. She kept one of the bottles and donated it to the National Museum of Contemporary History.
Cheers to thirty-year-old Slovenia!
