Postcard Collection

The richest part of the collection is related to the period of the World War I. It includes postcards with motifs of Slovenian painters, declarative postcards as well as propaganda postcards issued by the Red Cross and the Austro-Hungarian navy. The Collections is rounded off with postcards depicting scenes from military life, images of commanders and rulers, and many unique hand-drawn postcards. From later periods, of particular interest are plebiscite themed postcards, a group of postcards and greeting cards featuring folk motifs by artist Maksim Gaspari, German and Italian post-WWII propaganda postcards, and numerous panoramas. With texts, postage stamps, stamps and other features, postcards represent the intersection of archival, artistic and photographic heritage, and are therefore an important cultural history source.
