The Časopisna hiša Delo d. o. o. Collection (1955–1987)

Curator: Andreja Zupanec Bajželj

In 2009, on the newspaper’s 50th anniversary, Delo d. o. o. entrusted the museum with a part of its archive. The photographic legacy comprises thirty years’ worth of work of renowned photojournalists working for the paramount Slovene newspaper. The collection includes 9,363 sleeves with 598,000 preserved photographs, most of the in formats Leica, 6 × 6 and 6 × 9 cm.

The first edition of Delo was published on 1 May 1959, following the merger of newspapers Slovenski poročevalec and Ljudska pravica. In the three decades, photojournalists documented numerous hundreds of different events, experiences and more or less happy moments, making the collection the most comprehensive survey of political, religious, and cultural events in Slovenia and abroad, depicting countless congresses, celebrations, rallies, protests, as well as numerous politicians, manufacturing fairs, building of industry complexes, companies, and shopping centres.  Photographs collected in the archive help us track the growth of our cities and towns, and housing and infrastructure development.
