The Exportprojekt Collection (1949–1994)
Curator: Irena Ribič, Andreja Zupanec Bajželj

On 1 January 1995, Exportprojekt, a marketing communications, photography, and consulting company established in 1949, ceased to operate. The Ministry of Culture authorised and assisted in procuring of the company’s photographic archive for the National Museum of Contemporary History, which obtained the archive in 1994.

Since its inception, Exportprojekt produced advertising photography for Slovenian, and to a large extent, Yugoslav industry. The company’s enterprise can be divided into several areas. The first was general photography of industrial facilities, production processes, and factory products, the construction of various facilities, and industrial products fairs. The second part is made up of tourism photography, most notably photographs of the popular tourist destinations in Slovenia and in the former Yugoslav republics. The third part presents various events in part, related to tourism and in part, to industry.

According to the museum’s inventory count, the number of original negatives received from Exportprojekt is 152,147. The photographs are 6 × 6, 6 × 7, 6 × 9, 9 × 12 cm in size and in the Leica format. In the years soon after the company’s inception, the Leica format was prevalent, but soon larger formats came into use, as these enabled the production of high-quality magnifications.
