The Foto Slovenija Collection (1945–1973)
Curator: Katarina Jurjavčič

The Press Office of the Presidency of the National Government of Slovenia (LRS), established in 1945, was comprised of departments of information, photography, technical department, daily news, and a general department. In August of 1947, the Press Office was renamed the Bureau of Information of the Presidency of the People’s Republic of Slovenia. The National Museum of Contemporary History holds the material from the Press Office's photographic department, which covered important political, economic, cultural, and sporting events in Slovenia and abroad, as well as material resulting from the separation of the department in 1951.

The material includes about 180,000 negatives, mostly in Leica formats, as well as formats of 6 × 6, 6 × 7, and 6 × 9 cm in size. The negatives are stored in paper sleeves carrying the information about the content, location, date, and photographers’ names.  The material covers the time period of the last Partisan battles for the liberation of Slovenia from the spring of 1945 to 1973 and depicts almost the entire Slovenian territory. In addition to the well-sorted negatives, the museum received albums of their contact prints with more detailed information on almost every shot.
