The Slovenec Newspaper Collection dates to the first half of the 20th century. The Slovenec newspaper was published from 1873 to 1945. From the end of 1924 to the summer of 1932, Ilustirani Slovenec (Slovenec Illustrated) was published as the newspaper’s weekly enclosure. Many photographs now part of the museum archives were published in it.
The Slovenec Newspaper Collection is organised with regard to genre: portrait, landscape, architectural, reportage, documentary, genre, and sports photography. To the most widely represented themes in the collection belong photographs representing individuals, everyday social, ethnic, political, cultural, social, and economic life of Slovenes in the Habsburg Monarchy and the Kingdom of SHS/Yugoslavia.
Photographs in the Slovenec Newspaper Collection illustrate many aspects of life in the interim period, including the expressions of joy, happiness, anxiety, sadness, and all those things that made up people’s life in that period. That is why the Slovenec Newspaper Collection is undoubtedly an exceptional piece of historical and cultural heritage.
