In the museum we keep a paper witness of an important event, which happened 44 years ago in the immediate vicinity of our museum. Hala Tivoli was hosting Ray Charles himself.
With the construction of Hala Tivoli in 1965 Ljubljana got the facility that enabled the organization of a number of major sporting and cultural events in the following decades. These included also a series of concerts by foreign musicians, many of them preforming at the peak of their careers. This can certainly be said for the American jazz, soul and blues singer Ray Charles, who performed in Ljubljana on the 27 September 1972. The museum has just recently received the concert ticket from this even, which was donated by Ivo Saksida.
Undoubtedly, this was not the only attention-grabbing concert at our neighbour’s. Let us mention just a few more: American jazz musician Louis Armstrong was the first to perform in Hala, followed by the British rockers Dire Straits, German band Boney M, David Bowie, and even Nirvana, who played their last full concert here in 1994.
